How MSLE AI Uses AI
Last updated: November 2026
MSLE AI uses artificial intelligence for four features: scanning a meal photo, reading a nutrition label, working out the nutrition of a meal you describe in words, and MSLE Intelligence, the in-app nutrition guide. Barcode scans do not use AI; they look up the product in the Open Food Facts database.
Your permission comes first
Nothing is sent to an AI service until you tap "Allow" on the AI consent screen in the app. You can turn this off at any time in Profile > Intelligence > AI data sharing. Without it, you can still log meals by barcode and use the rest of the app.
What is sent
- Meal and label scans: the photo you take, and any correction you type.
- Describe your meal: the text you type about what you ate.
- MSLE Intelligence: your message and the recent conversation, plus the details needed to personalise the answer: your first name, sex, age, height, current and goal weight, goal, activity level, diet preference, daily targets, today's meals, macros and water, and your logging streak.
Who processes it
AI requests are processed by Google Gemini, either through MSLE AI's own secure server or through Rork's AI service, the platform MSLE AI is built on. They are used only to create your result or reply.
What is stored
Your meal logs and MSLE Intelligence conversations are saved on your phone so you can come back to them. MSLE AI does not keep copies of your meal photos on its servers.
Accuracy
AI results are estimates and can be wrong. You can review and edit every result before you save it. See our AI & Nutrition Disclaimer.
